2017 Funeral Service Appreciation Day - June 22, 2017
Appreciation Day Is All About You: Learn, Network, Celebrate

MFDA's Annual Funeral Service Appreciation Day - Do Your Job: Outlearn, Outpace, Outdo - on Thursday, June 22 in Foxborough will feature professional development seminars with locally and nationally renowned experts, annual OSHA requirement and opportunities to network with colleagues from across the state.
The day kicks off with the luncheon session, Blueprint for the Future Panel Discussion, with MFDA President Courtney Fitzgibbons and Dr. Jacquelyn Taylor. Based on work that has come about from the REAL Project, the Blueprint for the Future presents real, sustainable objectives and milestones that can be put into action by MFDA and its members. MFDA leadership and volunteers have been fully engaged in the REAL Project working group for two years, and the presentation will include information about why this effort is important to your business and to the funeral profession in Massachusetts.
Following the Blueprint Panel Discussion, MFDA will hold its Annual Meeting and be joined by special guest  Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Henry Nields.
The afternoon's general session - Outlearn, Outpace, Outdo: The Hot Issues Review - will feature keynote speaker Mark T. Evely, CFSP, attorney and director of the Wayne State University Funeral Service Program. Evely, who is frequently requested as an expert witness in funeral home and embalming negligence cases; is a subject matter expert for the National Board Examination and provides pro bono legal services to the American Board of Funeral Service Education, has his finger on the pulse of all the industry's latest trends and hottest issues. Among the topics he'll discuss are embalming and identification preparation; challenging ethical scenarios; recent FTC opinions; using protected materials and copyright issues; and recent cases of professional malpractice. Mr. Evely will also take your questions.
The educational program will conclude with the hour-long 2017 Annual OSHA Training, led by nurse and funeral professional Barbara Kazmierczak. A veteran trainer, Kazmierczak helps participants understand how OSHA is a useful tool rather than a burden. She outlines the top 10 ways to stay out of trouble, and also covers Hazard Communication Standard, GHS classification and labeling and how to comply with the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
Appreciation Day offers MFDA members a convenient and cost-effective way to fulfill a number of annual requirements. Attendees can earn a total of six CEUs and complete their annual OSHA Training requirement all before dinner!
