This week we shared advice on if/how funeral homes should celebrate Halloween. Also in this issue, we shared Massachusetts National Cemetery’s time and lane assignments, reported that a survey found that Massachusetts was the third costliest state to die in, reminded members about the final Building a Better Business session on Nov. 1, and announced the final OSHA training for the 2023 license year, a Goodwin University Oct. 25 information session, and the release of the film “The Burial.”

News You Can Use: October 11, 2023

In this issue, we announced news about the Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester and unclaimed cremated remains.  Also in this issue, we reminded members about the laws and regulations about those that are abandoned and provided advice.     We announced grants are available for students to attend the Nov. 16 embalmers session; shared highlights from the fall meeting of the MFDA Board of Directors meeting;  provided a reminder about the process for license renewal.  We announced that North Shore Community College will hold an information session for new students on Oct. 19; announced that SADOD (Support After a Death by Overdose) is presenting its second annual Finding Connections in Grief Conference on Oct. 20-22; and provided the Carriage Services statement regarding Park Lawn.

This week we shared photos from the second Building a Better Business session in Worcester and reminded members to take part in the last session, which is set for November 1 in Wellesley. Also in this issue, we discussed the Worcester Diocesan Cemetery system update,  introduced a group that supports families after a child dies; shared info about the fall round of scholarships for funeral service students and provided an update on the  Park Lawn Corporation/Carriage Services initiative.

This week we reported on the first of our three Building a Better Business sessions on environmentally friendly funeral options and invited others to attend next week’s session in Worcester and the session on Nov. 1 in Wellesley. Also in this issue, we provided info on the Registry of Vital Records and Statistics outreach, informed members that the next Celebrant Training in the northeast; reminded members that the American Board of Funeral Service Education is seeking feedback from funeral directors and urged members to SAVE THE DATE for the 2023 Professional Embalmers seminar on Nov. 16 featuring Vernie Fountain.
