News You Can Use: December 18, 2024

This week, we want to remind funeral directors that the 2024 Annual Preneed Reports must be submitted by January 31, 2025. We also provided an important update from the recent Board of Registration in Embalming and Funeral Directing meeting, including a draft regulation designed to resolve confusion surrounding the mandatory Continuing Education Unit (CEU) requirements for apprentices and funeral assistants.

 

In addition, we announced that the Division of Occupational Licensure and the State Board will be relocating in March 2025. Starting in January 2025, funeral directors should be aware that the Board of Embalming and Funeral Directing will require in-person attendance at meetings for several applicant types. Lastly, we are excited to introduce the new Registrar of the Registry of Vital Records and Statistics.

This week, we reported several key updates: The Registry of Vital Records and Statistics (RVRS) has delayed the launch of the MAVRIC reporting system to early 2025. The R.I. Medical Examiner’s Office advised funeral directors of an ongoing move. The Catholic Archdiocese announced its 2025 calendar of Holy Days. Wreaths Across America will hold events at Massachusetts Veterans Cemeteries. A federal court issued an injunction halting a law that required companies to disclose ownership and control information to the government.
