This week, we shared an update from New England Donor Services Recovery regarding their recovery of additional musculoskeletal tissues from donors. We also shared a recent decision by the EPA regarding the use of formaldehyde in embalming, reported that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner announced updates to the decedent release portal, asked members to update their email addresses to continue to receive communications, announced that the Green Burial Council added new certification for products, and provided an update from the Registry of Vital Records and Statistics on the deployment of MAVRIC.

Also, in this issue, we wished all a happy new year, informed funeral directors that the VA’s claim form for a standard government headstone or Marker has been updated, asked you to share stories about your impact in your community, shared a photo of President Jimmy Carter visiting the Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Concord in the 1980s, and reminded funeral directors that the 2024 Annual Preneed Reports must be submitted online by Jan. 31.
